Observe Contemporary Sculpture “Peace Of Land” Through The Eyes Of The Artist

A fellow artist asked, “What are you doing?”

And I replied, “I work my pain out”.

I threw a bag of clay on my table. Time passed, and I continued, unaware of what I was creating. Why did I feel that I was working my pain out? I realized that I was still experiencing the beating of six police officers in 2014 in a protest against the austerity measures outside the parliament of Athens. They shouted in my ears as they beat me: “Stay down.”

The preform grew and became heavier as additional clay, plaster, and water were added. It became increasingly difficult to move for it was heavy and fragile. I cut it into pieces to be able to work on each part. This allowed for space in my mind to see it anew. The sculpture went through a sea of changes to achieve the qualities of being complete, light, and strong.

And I created a piece of land, for the peace of land. I forgive them.
