Engineering Peace: How the Contemporary Sculpture “Peace Flower” Represents Human Resilience
The complex dynamics of conflict and peace have always been a part of humanity’s struggle. The ongoing wars brought this often-distant reality into sharp focus, inspiring me to create the “Peace Flower”. Much like the relationships between materials in contemporary art, the dynamic between people is often complex and requires careful consideration and compromise.
This dynamic became clear to me when, during the creation of the sculpture, the stem broke. I realized how symbolic it was to the concept of peace. Peace, much like the stem, is thin and fragile. The flower, with its symbolism of humanity, is the weight and force that constantly tests the strength and resolve of the stem. The process of creation led me to this symbolism, and to the engineering solution needed to make the stem strong enough to support the flower. I believe the process of returning to peace after war takes a similar path.
Our connectedness, our shared humanity, is unavoidable. We must work together to create lasting peace.
